There is something to be said for starting the day with a decent cup of coffee.
Now don't get me wrong, I have always preferred the more unique over chains in terms of quality... But...
Up until recently my go-to guilty pleasure morning hit came from Starbucks.
Then a Gail's Bakery branch opened up a ten minutes from my front door... And something changed.
It was a nostalgic thing, Starbucks. Growing up seeing those cups on tv shows, it came to represent something that wasn't available back home in Stockholm (Starbucks has only been allowed to open shop in Sweden over the last few years, and even now there are only less than a handful scattered around). It came to represent New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco... London... Thos big cities with their 24/7 lights and endless possibilities.
But over the past few weeks I've realised that it doesn't compare, not even with the feel good factor of those branded mugs. So I'm done. As in no more. Unless left with no other source of coffee with a pre-7AM call time... And for those who know me, they'll realise this is significant news.
So it's nothing personal. It's not you, Bucks. We had a good run, and we'll always have the memories. I'll drop by to see you every now and then, and I'll still use those mugs at home with the different city names on them. But, well, it just doesn't quite do it for me anymore. So Gail's, boy am I glad you do frequent-coffee-drinker cards!
Welcome to the neighbourhood!

Because You’re Worth It…
"It's not that we're saying you're not WORTH it, we're just saying you might want to consider going in a bit lower, just for now."
I'll never forget that moment.
The recruiter had acknowledged my achievements, confirmed I was in fact over-qualified for the role and that she was confident I would have a good experience with her client. Yet to ask for the range of money I had already been earning elsewhere? Surely I realised how lucky I had been and that this wasn’t something I could expect just anywhere? Surely I had to understand I would need to position myself lower, make compromises...

"I may not agree with everything you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Freedom of speech, of opinion, of expression, was brutally and barbarically attacked on Wednesday 7th January 2015. Not for the first time, and most likely not the last.
But along with the deep sense of sadness and loss, people around the world stand united with the cartoonist on the side of freedom. In defence of our liberties and basic human rights. Of our basic freedoms of expression.
In defence of the power of both pen and laughter, for even in the darkest times laughter may shine a bright light and even against the mightiest sword a pen stands mighty.

In keeping with the foodie theme, Saturday was spent discovering a new London gem. Miss S got the gang together for some Le Brunch at Le Bun!
We visited the New Street Grill location, tucked away a stones-throw from Liverpool Street station, where the street-food success story is running a residency there on the weekends!
The style is 'luxury French-American' which translates to diner vibes in a sophisticated setting, and a menu that pokes fun at and mixes up deliciousness from both worlds.

There's a magical place, within perfect walking difference between the Louvre, The Opera house and that Chanel store. Now, even though you can technically find the Laudree in London too,l there's just something special about picking up beautifully packaged and over-priced Macaroons after spending the day strolling through the streets of Paris.
